Storing Silver Jewelry Looking for ways to keep that silver shimmer in tact? You can enjoy the luster of the metals and gems in all of your jewelry simply by occasionally cleaning and always storing it properly. Storing silver jewelry is an easy task, and is very crucial if you want to keep your rings, necklaces, earrings, and other silver pieces beautiful for years, even generations, to come!

Use a jewelry box with many compartments for storing silver jewelry items separately. Each piece of silver jewelry should be kept in its own box or pouch. It shouldn’t be stored together, or with any other types of fine jewelry; gems scratch and damage silver jewelry. Silver chains should be laid flat or hung up, to avoid knotting and tangling.

While you are cleaning the house, it’s wise to take off all your silver items. Some cleaning chemicals, including ammonia and chlorine, may discolor, damage, or cause a film to form on your silver and dull its appearance. Also, when you go to bed or play sports, remove your jewelry to avoid kinking, scratching, and breaking.

Even after you make a habit of storing silver jewelry properly, and taking it off during rough activities, you will still want to take it to a jeweler periodically. A jewelry repair specialist can assist you with damaged clasps, kinks and worn silver.
