Cubic Zirconia

Cubic ZirconiaThis isn’t a diamond, but it sure looks like one! Cubic zirconia is also known as CZ or CZ diamonds. Cubic zirconia was born as an affordable alternative to natural diamonds. This is the most popular jewelry choice among man made diamonds. They come in every color imaginable at a fraction of the cost of other precious stones!

Cubic Zirconia should be cared for just as real diamonds. Clean your cubic zirconia jewelry with warm, soapy water and a soft brush or an ultrasonic cleaner. Dry it well to keep its brilliant shine. Take your cubic zirconia rings and bracelets off while doing heavy work such as gardening and moving. You should store cubic zirconia jewelry in a fabric-lined box for its protection. By taking these precautions, these beautiful “fake” diamonds will last you for many years.

You can purchase Cubic zirconia in beautiful cuts that you can’t distinguish from genuine diamonds!

Here are the most popular cuts:

  • Round Brilliant - the most classic cut
  • Marquise - an elongated brilliant-cut stone with a point on each end
  • Princess - typically a four-sided square to slightly rectangular brilliant cut
  • Radiant - typically a slightly rectangular to square diamond
  • Emerald - a traditional octagonal cut usually rectangular
  • Pear - combines the brilliance and form of a round stone with the elongated elegance of a marquise
  • Oval - reminiscent of the round brilliant cut, both in sparkle and shape
  • Heart - more fanciful cut, shaped just as it sounds

To understand more specifically just what this “fake” diamond is, Cubic zirconia is a clear, hard, mass-produced gemstone cut to resemble a diamond. The mineral baddeleyite has the same chemical composition, but to become a CZ the mineral must be heated to almost 5000 degrees Fahrenheit and have an oxide stabilizer such as yttrium or calcium added to keep it from reverting back to its original form when cooled. Almost all the rough Cubic zirconia's in the market are composed of zirconium oxide and yttrium oxide, both of which are naturally white but combine to form a brilliant clear crystal. Like diamonds, the best cubic zirconia gems are colorless but colored forms are also manufactured. Vivid green CZ is sometimes referred to as C-OX. Cubic zirconia is sold in numerous colors frequently listed under various tradenames, such as the yellow CZ from Ceylon called "jargon". Cubic zirconia gemstones are cut in the same fashion as diamonds, and like diamonds the size of the gemstone is usually indicated by its weight in carats.
